Trevor Schneider is the Director of Real Estate for the University of Florida, where he is charged with the leadership and strategic direction for the Office of Real Estate (ORE). ORE is responsible for the acquisitions and sales of real estate for the University and affiliated entities, formulation of real estate strategies, negotiation of real estate lease transactions, marketing existing and future University real estate / land developments, managing and tracking existing assets, overseeing state land issues, and executing on the real estate aspects of economic development initiatives. Mr. Schneider joined the University of Florida in December 2018 with more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience.
Mr. Schneider holds a Master of Science Degree in Corporate Real Estate from Georgia State University, J. Mack Robinson College of Business in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Schneider completed his undergraduate work at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Finance and Economics. Mr. Schneider served honorably in the United States Air Force and has completed comprehensive foreign language studies at the Presidio of Monterey / Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.
Matt Caven was asked to join The University of Florida Office of Real Estate in early 2020 as Assistant Director, relocating from Jacksonville in order to be with the Gainesville team. Before joining the Office of Real Estate, Matt worked in commercial real estate brokerage in Jacksonville for over 5 years, where he specialized in Office and Medical Office space and users. Given Matt’s extensive history in the Jacksonville market, he also assists with the UF Health Jacksonville team regularly, in addition to his work in Gainesville and beyond.
Matt enjoys playing and recording music with his friends and family. He and his wife are also outdoor enthusiasts, and enjoy spending their free time appreciating the natural beauty Gainesville and its surrounding areas have to offer.
Theresa joined the Office of Real Estate in February 2016, bringing with her 20 years of invaluable UF administrative experience. Theresa is responsible for the overall management, administration and operation of the ORE office. As the office has grown and our real estate services now extend to the entire UF enterprise, Theresa also assists with the real estate leasing needs of UF departments and direct support of the property management functions of the University of Florida Development Corporation (the Ayers building and associated parking lots). In addition, Theresa has been an integral part of the team to sell real estate gifts received by the UF Foundation. From the initial sales listing through closing, Theresa is directly involved in obtaining and reviewing listing and sales agreements, preparing the properties for sale, managing the properties along the way, and helping to ensure the return to the Foundation has been maximized.
Theresa recently completed and passed the State of Florida required education and exams to obtain her real estate sales associate license (63-hour initial real estate course and 45-hour post license real estate course), obtaining valuable real estate knowledge that will directly benefit ORE and the Foundation.
Theresa, Chuck, and their dog ‘Chili Pepper’ spend their spare time hiking around Florida State Parks, and relaxing at their cabin on Lake Santa Fe.
John Michael (Miko) Sy joined the Office of Real Estate in June of 2018 as the team’s only Financial Analyst and Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining UF, Miko gained valuable experience as an accountant, excelling at one of the top accounting firms in the North Central Region of Florida. Half of Miko’s allocation is towards the Office of Real Estate, while the other half is allocated towards the University Budget Office. Miko is responsible for the accounting and bookkeeping of Innovation Square LLC, budget analysis, and oversight of the annual audit of the University of Florida Development Corp.
In his spare time, Miko enjoys weekends at Disney with his two daughters, making bbq for friends, and showcasing his talent of rapping on tiktok.
With over 10 years’ experience in the medical and institutional building maintenance field, David is the newest member of the Office of Real Estate team. As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist, David is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Ayers building and its mechanical systems, as well as overseeing the security team, grounds maintenance, parking lots and environmental services. David brings to the team a unique skillset from his vast experience in construction, maintenance, service, and property management. Before his employment at UF, David worked for a national commercial real estate brokerage and property management firm and has been directly involved with the Ayers building for over 5 years. Since his first day at UF, David has provided a unique insight into the inner workings of the building and has proven to be an asset to the real estate team.
Being raised in Florida, in his spare time David enjoys most outdoor activities, including raising chickens and gardening.
Cole joined the Office of Real Estate in November 2017 as a student assistant from the college of engineering. Over the past 4 years her responsibilities have changed several times over to reflect the needs of the Office of Real Estate and Innovation Square. She has coordinated with the UF BATS team in the creation of the STARS Leasing Database and is responsible for updating and maintaining the database. Cole has also contributed to the creation of the official website for the UF Office of Real Estate and manages the revisions and modifications in addition to informing our community of current projects through the News & Notices tab.
In her free time, Cole leads a team of engineering students in designing and developing adaptive game controllers for her club at UF, Generational Relief in Prosthetics (GRiP). She also enjoys reading and painting with acrylics and watercolors.
